How to apply for international expeditions (for domestic courses, see the domestic page):

Step 1) Read the prerequisites applicable to the course you’d like to apply to:
Prerequisites for Ishinca, Yana, or Aconcagua or Ski Mountaineering

Step 2) Fill out the online SIET Application.

Step 3) Pay the required deposit (payment information will be included in your acceptance letter).

Step 4) Get so excited you pee your pants (please change those pants before the expedition)!

*Please note: You must be at least 18 years old to apply for our international programs. It may take up to 1 week for your application to be reviewed and for you to receive an acceptance letter. With the acceptance letter, you will receive a packet that provides information you need to prepare yourself for the expedition, including payment information, travel info, an acknowledgment of risk form and other pertinent documents. SIET staff will be readily available to help you prepare and plan for your course.

For all International Programs: Rescue Plans and Passports are Required

Rescue Plans:

Due to the fact that the areas we travel through do not have reliable search and rescue teams, SIET requires that all students purchase a third party rescue plan. In areas where qualified rescue teams don’t exist or rescue teams are ill equipped for the mountains, Global Rescue sends in their own team or hires the closest qualified team. The rescue plans cover varied amounts of potential rescue costs. There are 2 plans available and both are through Global Rescue.**

Option 1) By becoming a member of the American Alpine Club (AAC), your rescue expenses are covered up to $5,000. You can research the plan on the AAC web site: www.americanalpineclub.org/globalrescue

Option 2) More comprehensive plans that are customized for SIET by Global Rescue are available on this site:

www.globalrescue.com/SIET/

Passports:

Make sure you allow sufficient time to obtain a passport if you do not already have one: www.travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html

**Please read your rescue plans thoroughly. It is your responsibility to know the limitations of each plan. Note that the plan through the AAC is only for medical rescues. SIET can not and does not make any promises regarding the quality of service of any third party organization such as Global Rescue
